Should a person even try to start an engine that has not run for a few years? I have a WK-40 and an AC 20-35. Both have good compression and all the controls are free. Both apear to be pumping oil. I have started F-20s and Model Ts after long rests, but they are not quite as hard to find parts for and I never worried about it. Would you light them up or tear down for inspection and cleaning first? Thanks Bill

You might try adding a teaspoon of Marvel oil in each cylinder before you turn it over the first time. Might save you a scratch or two on your liners. You can get it at Walmart.

Why not start it? If it's not stuck and has all good fluids, nothing is wrong with starting.

My opinion (which, with a buck will get ya a cuppa coffee in a cheap restaurant): Check the air cleaner and intake for dauber nests, douche out the gas tank, sediment trap and lines with fresh gas, change the oil, spin 'em over with the ignition (mag, whatever) off to oil 'em up, and light 'em off!
