Well after many hours and two or so years of time I finally got my '35 F12 running. I had to sneak the new rubber into the shed past my wife (NOT easy!!)and then play dumb as to how long ago and how much I actually paid for them. Got the motor un-stuck put in new rings, replaced as many bearings as I could. Cleaned out the tranny sludge, and then put it all on hold because of the birth of my daughter(worthy excuse!!). Then finally I got back to it, then had the hood stolen, long story in that one. I think I have everything now and would like to thank EVERYONE who has helped answer my questions and helped with my problems. Oh yah, kind of embarrasing, but I had two plug wires backwards and three wires weren't seated in the mag cap all the way(I swear I thought they were in all the way!!) and I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start, DUH!!!I'd blame it on the beer but that's not fair to the beer, haha.
Thanks all, Brian

Had an interesting experience with switched spark plug wires when I was a kid.

We had a Farmall H with a loader on it that we used to clean out the hog houses along with a lot of other things.

The muffler was too high to fit into some of our buildings so we had welded an inlet into the side of the muffler so it pointed forward instead of up.

One day I was cleaning out our cattle feedlot and I quit for dinner. When I came back I found the cattle had pulled off the plug wires. I reattached them and went to start the tractor. It cranked over but wouldn't fire when suddenly there was this very loud explosion.

I was looking on both sides of the tractor trying to figure out what had exploded when, with a loud clang, the muffler came out of the sky and missed me by about three feet.

I then discovered I had attached the plug wires wrong and the explosion was when it had fired with a valve open.

The muffler had been launched into the air with such velocity that I didn't even see it leave, even though I was looking directly at it time.

From the time of the explosion until the muffler arrived back on the tractor was several seconds so it must have gone into the air quite a ways.

I was home alone at the time and have always thought about what people would have thought if they had found me lying unconcious on the ground with a muffler beside me.

Sometime we can be pretty dangerous in our stupidity.

Congratulations! On both the tractor and sneaking past the wife! Sometimes I wonder which is more difficult. :)

Congratulations.

I've swapped wires by mistake in the field, with the engine hot. Working an oil burner you have to take plugs to the field to change out when it starts missing too much.

With the engine hot, it is tough to change the plugs on an M or H. The hood is always in the way. I was baling with a Super H and had to change the plugs, got wires switched, and finished the field, limping. Only in road gear was I sure something was wrong.

Congrats!!! I understand the beers and the plug wires...The beers always help when things just aren't going right. It kept me from just pushing my tractor down the hill in disgust on more than one occasion. I also found out that a Cub will start and run (not well) with the firing order completely reversed. The good news is that I didn't break anything and I have never done it since...

Anyway...great job!!

Feels great to get her running doesn't it. I can relate to you on those tires. They just don't understand spending money on tractor tires!! Also the plug wires reversed. I've done that twice on my MD. First time, two were reversed. found out it will run on gas on two cylinders. Second time, got mixed up on the mag rotation. Almost would run on one cylinder, but not quite. Blows the oil out of the air cleaner!!
