I have bought a Super C with battery ignition. It is still at the purchasers home and will not start. He ran it a few months ago and everything was fine. It is still 6V and turns very slow. It doesnt seem to be getting any spark to the plugs. The distributor cap, condenser, and points are less than a year old. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

It its turning slowly, the starter is probably sucking all the power from the battery and there's just not enough left for the coil to make a spark with. Recharge the battery.

I had a problem with no spark to the plugs. I had put in a new condenser and found out that the forked terminal connector was too long and grounding out. i snipped off about an 1/8 of an inch off the connector and she fired right up.

A cheap test light is also handy and will let you check for voltage in a hurry.

Hi: There may be a problem with the condenser. I bought new plugs, points and a condenser. The new condenser wasn't any good, so I replaced it with the old one. Tractor started right up. I would first make sure all your connections to the battery, coil, distributor, etc. are real clean and connected good. Check the battery voltage should be 6-6.9 volts.

Bill, Red tells it right: the best way to check is with a volt meter. I've found the ammeter open twice on my C. Probably wouldn't have thought to try it except for the meter.

And if you don't have a voltmeter, use a piece of wire and try to draw sparks against the frame at each connection.

Sometimes just cleaning ALL the low voltage fittings (switch, coil, dist, ) can do the trick.

Check the battery cables for bad connections. Corrosion on the ground cable's attachment to the tractor and battery can add a lot of resistance. If the cables are cracked or worn looking replace them.

Bill I would start on the hot side of the coil switch to see if you have voltage. Then pull the switch on and check the switched side.
If that is good check the voltage at the coil from the coil wire. If that is good, check the wire between the coil and the distributor. Then check at the distributor.
My guess is that you have a bad coil or simply not getting voltage to the coil.
