I need some help,my A's clutch isn't releasing all the way. When I go to put her in gear she sounds like I'm tearing her tranny out. Also when I do get her in gear and push the clutch in she goes about 3 to 5 more feet.I just got her she has been sitting for a long time.I have only driven her around the yard 2 times.Do I adjust or use it and wait to see if the problem gets worked out?I'm new to the tractor scene so don't hurt me.

You should find some zerk fittings through the hole in the left side and in the bottom of the clutch housing. Shoot some grease in them, but only 1 or 2 strokes. I only have experience with a Super A, not an A but I assume they are the same or similar. Those clutch zerks only need to be greased about once a year. As I recall, you may have to rotate the engine to get the one you reach through the bottom in position to grease it. We only used to do it when we could not get the thing to go in gear because the transmission would not stop turning.

First try to adjust the clutch and if that don't work, check to see if the rear main engine seal is leaking. I've had this happen and enough oil gets on the clutch disc to make it stick to the pressure plate. That maybe why you go a few feet before it releases. If that is it you can put some talcum powder in there someway, and it will dry it out temporily. The only way to really fix it is to change the clutch and put a new rear main seal in. I hope it is only an adjustment. Good Luck

Adjust the clutch linkage until you have 1/2 inch of free play at the top of the clutch pedal. Do it asap as the current setting is bad for the clutch.
