F-20 head torque

What is the correct Torque for the head on a F-20? I had tightened to 65 ft lbs and am seeing leaks in the water side from the front to the back and allong the manifold side. appears to be on block side only. have retorqued the bolts again as many seemed loose. I have less than ten hours on the rebuild. I did not use any gasket sealer (any recomendations) I suspect it is time to take the head back off and buy a new gasket but am looking for opinions.

Al: Just had the head rebuilt on my F20 by an expert. I followed his instructions on putting the head back on and have had absolutely no leaks, so I'll pass his instructions on to you. 1) Spray paint your head gasket with copper coat or aluminum (I used aluminum high heat paint) 3 light coats both sides. Since your tractor is all back together, I would try everything else on these instructions before pulling the head back off. 2) Torque the head down to 85 lbs. (This is determined by bolt size.) Do it in 3 stages, first up to 30 lbs., second time to 60 lbs. and third, up to 85 lbs. THERE ARE 15 BOLTS TO TORQUE AND THE ORDER IN WHICH YOU TORQUE THEM IS OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE. MAYBE THE FOLLOWING DIAGRAM WILL HELP.

(RIGHT SIDE OF ENGINE) 4) DO NOT use any sealant on head gastket, as it has a way of going where it shouldn't. 5) When your torque is up to 85 lbs., put your valve train back on (I set my valves at .018),and fire her up. and let it run until it
gets to operating temp. Shut down and retorque.Be sure to follow the sequence.
Too bad you'll have to pull all the rockers off
to do this, but that's the way it goes. That should be it. I did everything as listed above and mine didn't leak a drop. Good luck.

Did you have the head milled when you did your rebuild? If not, have a machine shop check it out and mill it if necessary. This will assure that its flat. Head bolts should always be re-torqued after a few hours of running for the first time. Finding some "loose" is to be expected after a heat up/cool down cycle.

i always use copper coat on my head gaskets i always buy it in spray cans. when you tear it back down check the head for warping i just use a good quality framing square. also make sure the liners are ano too far up.
