Now I know I need a clutch. But today I got her(Farmall A)good and warm and she started smoking at idle(oil smoke)and with no load, but when I got on the hill of my driveway and it loaded a little it stopped smoking about 95%
Is it time for a valve job or overhaul?
I changed the oil the other day and used 30wt.
If I do need a valve job or overhaul how much will it cost.Oh yeh my oil pressure is good and high.

I have the same problem with my BN. When you have the valve job done I recomend you put umbrella type valve guide seals in it. This will help keep oil out. They are available from NAPA. I work at a NAPA store and I got a set for mine but haven't had a chance to put them in yet.

Bish oil is getting down your valve stems. The guides usually wear before the rings wear out. I wouldn't consider that bad enough that it needs to be done immediately. That would be a good winter project though.

NAPA charged me about $125 in labor for a Farmall H head last year and did the following.

Boiled. Magnifluxed.
Shaved.
Installed new exhaust seats. Ground intake seats. Replaced valve stem guides. Replaced manifold studs. Installed new valves and springs.

The one thing I forgot to have them do was seat the valves with compound. So I had quite a bit of valve clearance adjustments over the first 10 hours of running. I had TISCO valves seating into grouind IH and new NAPA valve seats.

Red, what was the total price they charged you? So far, that $125 sounds pretty reasonable.

Parts and labor ran me around $275 total for the head if I recall correctly.
