I'm looking to buy an International 444 and I need some advice. I've been reading some posts and now I am confused about what the guy told me about it. He said it was a 1973 model but from the posts I've read the 444 was last made in 1970. The serial number I found is 10046 but I could not find it anywhere in the serial number listings. Does anyone know if this is a good tractor? Is it made in the US or is it from overseas? It runns good..has power steering...new tires...a box blade and a bush hog for 5500.00 Should I steer clear or is this a good tractor to have? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Even info on where I might go to find out what I need to know would be helpful!

Thanks,
Bert

Bert:
There is a lot of confusion about 444 tractors. There was a Louisville assembled 444 tractor that was sold in the US but there was also a British built 444 tractor sold in Britain and Canada from about 1972 to 1977. The US version had a Delco electrical system and a round front axle similar to an Int.504. The British version had a Lucas or Bosch electrical and a square front axle with a power assist steering cylinder on the left side of the tractor. If the serial number has a letter B in it then you have the British version while the letter U indicates US manufacture. The 2 versions of 444 share a common rear end and if Diesel the engine is the same otherwise they are quite different tractors.
Hope this helps. Don.

Have used a 444 on our farm for the last 20 years or so, it has been a very good utility tractor. Only thing that ever caused problems was the electric needle valve in the carburator. sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Good luck Mike S (WA)

Ser # 10046 International 444 is a 1970 model. (1970 serial numbers start with 9010 and 1971 serial numbers start with 12357). The diesel engine and rear end were made in Britian but it is considered a USA tractor. It was assembled in Louisville with the mentioned British parts and Americain wheels, front axle, sheet metal, electrics, and other components including engine if gasoline. It is the same design as the B-275, B-414 and is basicly still being made today with minor changes by Mahindra in India. It is a very good, rugged utility tractor.

The 444 is a very good tractor. I farm a lot for a guy that has a 2444 which is the industrial version of the 444. His is the best all around tractor he has. You can bale, mow, blade, plow, whatever you want with it. They are balanced well and have good power. Only thing I don't like about his is that it don't have power steering. i would say with the equipment and if it has good tires and runs well, you are not getting hurt at that price.
