I have a 1948 Super A (serial #2600010) that I just got running and was wondering if she has a water pump? I have seen water pump rebuild kits listed for the Super A in some parts books but don't see one on mine - at least it is not behind the fan. Where is it? Also, my temp gage is not working. Is it probably just the gage and not the sending unit bulb or do you have to replace both? Where can I get this?

I have a 51 SA that I mow lawn with. It always seemed to be running a little hot and it would spew water out the overflow tube when I would go down a steep grade. I installed a water pump from a SC on it and did NOTHING else. It works excellent keeping the engine cool and it doesn't spew water anymore. My experience with my tractor tells me that you DON'T have to change to a pressure system as mine works real well. The pump installs in place of the lower water inlet fitting. I had to remove the radiator to install it. When purchasing one besure to get the plate that attatches to the back side of the pump. Some rebuilt pumps come without this plate. Good luck. Ed.

Big, the temp. gauge and sending unit are one. You can get it at your local Case-IH dealer or Bermuda Ken has them also.

Super-A's didnt come with a water pump but I understand a Super-C water pump will bolt right up. Rising hot water and sinking cool water kept it circulating. My radiator looks like it would explode if it were put under pressure.(must be the origional). The manual says to flush the cooling system every 400 hours of operation. You shouldnt have cooling problems as long as its kept clean.

My opinion, Super A does not need a water pump if everything is clean. If you pull it hard, it will boil and you will have to add water on occassion, but I think that is normal since the cooling system is not sealed. Unless you close her up with a pressure cap, you will still have the same problem even with a pump. And, you are probably looking at problems if you put the radiator under pressure.

Hi Guys, Just for general info as I've never seen a model A. A pressure water system will raise the boiling point of water from 212 to 250 degrees at 12psi. I think it's 12psi, I can't remember.
