I just got done reading the Roger Welsch book 'Rusty Knuckles and Busted Tractors' and it was both hilarious and informative. His adventures with an Allis WC are quite interesting. He mentions whacking stuck bolts with a brass hammer. I assume this is because brass won't spark? Is such a thing a good tool to have and if so, any recommendations as to where to get it?
Thanks!
BTD

To make a real good brass hammer:
1-Catch a brass monkey.
2- Freeze his balls off.
3- Melt down the brass balls.
4- Form molten brass into a hammer head.

BTD, You should be able to find a good quality brass hammer at any major Auto Parts store. They are not cheap but worth every penny they cost. I keep two handy when working on old iron.//FB

A brass hammer is for when you need to beat the heck out of something and not make it look like it! Wonderful tool, don't know if I have ever seen one for sale, but I have seen lots of homemade ones, like mine.

A piece of brass flatstock is handy to have in your toolbox. It works better than a wooden block and still does'nt hurt threads.

The advantage of a brass hammer is that it is softer, in most cases, than the item being hit. Therefore the damage to the piece being beat upon is minimum. Yes, everyone needs a brass hammer.

Another way is to get a piece of brass rod and use it like a punch.
