on the right of the engne just behind the mag there are 4 round headed screws that are screwed in to the block. my books show them but don't say anything about them. dose anyone know what they are for?

They hold your cam bearings in place.

Jeff, please obtain a parts book for any of the '39 and older F, W and early number series tractors. You'll see that the four screws in question here are truly for the mag mounting bracket on electric light equipped units. Dick

When Tractor is equipted with optional electric lights the generator is installed between governor and magneto. The four screws are for the new support bracket for magneto.
