I have an MD that doesn't get ran much. Got it out recently and on the diesel side the motor won't hold a steady rpm. At full throttle it runs out then slows down, runs out then slows down. It won't idle at all. I changed out the fuel and put in fresh - didn't help. I then installed new fuel filters, cleaned out the sediment bowl and pump screen - didn't help. Any suggestions (non-profain prefered)? Thanks.

Your problem is caused from either excessive sitting or from a worn governer shaft. The first thing to do is change the oil in the injection pump. There is a oil level check plug about 1/3 up the side of the pump. Open it first and see if the pump is over full. More than likely it will be. This means diesel fuel has leaked into the pump oil. When the tractor sits excessively the fuel gums up the governor mechanism. Run it alot and keep changing the pump oil, it should go away. If that fails the pump needs rebuilt because the thrust washer that operates the governor has worn a groove in the governor shaft. This is very expensive to fix as governor parts for these pumps are scarce and the governor shaft is the last part to come out of the pump. Good Luck!!

Hi bill, non-profain prefered, non-profain given!

Crack the injector line on each injector one at a time, after engine is warmed and messing up. If air comes out of any injector then bleed until no air. Also notice at the same time if the engine runs better or worse or stays the same. If no difference is noted then that injector or circuit is bad, has air traped, a dirty injector or pump is not working on that line. There really easy to clean. The body unscrews with a pressure spring inside so don't let the parts fly. Be very observent of parts order! Clean with Chemtron Berriman B-12, obtained at any parts store. Pre clean outside and inside with spray brake cleaner as it's cheaper. If you get either one in your eyes, don't rub, flush with plenty, lots and then more water. Nasty stuff but melts carbon away before your eyes. Where there normally dirty is right at the nozzle end where carbon builds up. Clean is the key word! See if that helps.

Put 2 quart of automatic transmission fluid in about 10 gallon of fuel and run the tractor a while. This fluid sometimes called dextron or mercon has many additives which help clean the pump and injecters.
