I posted earlier this week about a IH 350 I was thinking about buying. Did all of these models have the T/A? This one does not have it but it does have power steering that was added on. Thanks in advance for your help as always.

The T/A definitely seems to be something many chose to do without judging from the serial numbers in the Tractor Registry on this site. The T/A was coded into the serial number with either an "S" suffix (for independent PTO) or "R" suffix (transmission-driven PTO). Roughly half of the 300 and 350 utilities listed there don't show either in the suffix.

If you decide to buy this tractor and put it into the registry, looks like you'll have the first straight gas 350 Utility listed.

Barry good question. I am looking at Guy Fay's IH Data Book. It would appear that the various Farmall 350s had TA as standard equipment. The various International 350 utilites appear to have the TA as an option.

Every tractor that had TA available also had it as a delete option- it was never a manditory thing. "Standard" essentially means "it doesn't cost more".

This post got me a thinking, IH never really replaced this class of tractor, a 340 is more techinaly advanced but motor size is hard to beat.
A 460 uses some related parts but is heaver, much larger motor, and compares well to M class through 400 and maybe 450. A farmall 544 is closer. Any better sugestions or was the H class sorta dropped?
No money involved just a thought.

The 460 was the H size transmission- I know things get a little bit flakey when doing comparisons, but consider that the original name for the 460 was the 360, and that the 560 was originally the 460. You can't compare horsepower- you have to compare catagory, and remember that each catagory increases with each generation.

Thanks for clarifying Guy. Your book didn't show TA as an option on the Farmall 350 pages 184-189.

The options aren't quite as complete as I hope- they are from the advertising literature, and IH did a lot of stuff that wasn't in the literature- unfortunatly, its hard to find some of that info.
