I got it with a longer bolt and had the head of the bolt at the outside edge of the nut . Just inside the groove . Hit my hand a couple dozen times , just glances off .
Thanks for the other suggestions , they sound less pain full . I came up with another idea , that I was thinking of trying .
Which is to take a bolt that fits lengthwise in the groove of the nut , weld a bolt on that like a "T" then use an impact wrench . Maby next time Later guy's
Oh , I need another seal it was another one of those double seal jobs again ...
I did the belly pump already , was tricky getting the shift arm back .

I use a tire iron to take them off. The nut is normal right hand thread. Some times I lock the transmission in two gears to get it loose.

Bob you might have to stick a big ol pipe wrench on there to get it loose. It will mark up the outer edge on the nut or dog as it is called, but you can smooth it out on a grind stone. Nobody will see it anyway.

Bob both on the transmission and on the belly pump, you unscrew the nut counterclockwise. They can be stubborn!!!!!

Bob- I just did one. I tried the tire iron, the pipe wrench. Nothing. Finally got a big BRASS punch from the tool man. About four hard smacks with the 3# and it finally came loose. You don't have to worry about damaging the slot if you use brass. Paul+
