I've been talking to some of the guys in the pulling discussion board and they say I can bore my M out to 4.32" and run Chysler 440 pistons. How much would this leave for cylinder wall thickness? I don't want something strictly for pulling. Would this be a reliable setup?

Everybody has there owen preferance ,myself ilike the 8500 ft. high alitude pistons ,one of my customers has a S/MTA with this setup we just over hauld it two years ago first time since 1958 when it burnt under a picker that is when they put the first set in it , had a hard time finding the same pistons for it ,but after calling Clyde Burkshire we found the and completed the job . It has more H/P the his 706 gas with the 291 cu.in .It handels my 2300 A/C disc wy better then my S/MTA and mine has 68.5H/P ,they use it ever day on there farm that tractor is awsome on the feed grinder you can'tkill it

You can still get vthe M&W 4-1/4 inch oversize for Farmall 450s. You cab get the pistons without the sleeves and run these in an M block with no problems. I've done this for a couple guys and you can grt a solid 65 horse fairly easy. This still makes a good reliable tractor for daily use.

Bryon you take a risk of boring through water jackets. I would not advise doing that. A fellow a few pages back bored out an H block and it is now basically ruined.

Byron,
This sounds a little much for a working tractor. I would go with 1/8" overbore sleeves and settle for the 264 CI displacement rather than risk having to do it all over again for a few extra ponies. I doubt that the 4.32" bore would give more than 4 HP over the 4.125" bore and the sleeves will be thick enough to reliably last a working tractor for several decades.

My 2¢,
Phil
