I have a 1947 Farmall Cub that I just rebuilt. What is the firing order? And is this order on the cylenders or the distributer?
Bill

The firing order on a cub is 1-3-4-2. Cylinder 1 is at the front and cylinder 4 is at the back, etc. Every inline four with which I am familiar has this firing order- there may be an exception somewhere. This is the order on the distributor or magneto cap. No. 1 is marked on the cap. Turn with hand crank and observe the rotation direction of the rotor to determine the position of #3,etc.

Hey Bus Driver, haven't heard from you for a while. Hope all is OK. The exception for the firing order is 1243 but I do not recall the brand. 1342 is all this board needs to remember

Thank you, ltf in nc for your kind words. Maybe I chose the name someone else was using. I discovered this site only two weeks ago. There is some really good stuff here and I feel a deep responsibility to be correct in any information that I offer. I don't want to cause injury to someone or damage to their machine. Please keep posting your good ideas.

I would like to think every one that responded with info. So the 1-3-4-2 firing order is pertaning to the distributer and not the cylenders?

Yes , The cylinders are from front to back .1, 2 , 3 and 4 .
So you hook up your plug wires from the distributor . From number 1 on the distributor to the one cylinder plug on the engine .
I think the rotation is counter clockwise , you can determine this by yourself by rotating the engine normal operating rotation and watching the distribtor rotation .
Place the next plug in the fireing order sequence . Any questions , post again

Allis-Chalmers fires 1-2-4-3. First time I worked on my WD I wired it 1-3-4-2 like my good ol' Farmall's. Needless to say it didn't run right. It still puzzles me how two cyclinders next to each other fire in order. Well maybe not how they fire, but why they fire 2 in a row like that. Oh well. Bill {Antique Acres}

The firing order is on the same side of the block as the manifold it is stamped right above the hydraulic pump on the lower side of the valve inspection plate should be 1-3-4-2
