My 1961 yellow International Cub Farmall goes too slow in second gear but the mower is nice and fast. In third gear it goes fast but the mower is too slow! Do I need to adjust the govener ,and if so how does one do this? Also need a picture of one of these yellow Farmalls.

You cannot adjust the governor to speed up the mower. The governor is designed to keep the engine running at a steady speed wherever you have the throttle set. The only way to speed up the mower is to open up the throttle. On a Cub you might as well forget about mowing in 3rd geard. That is road gear to a Cub and it does not have enought power to mow and pull itself. It was not designed to mow in that gear. As for the mower turning too fast, you can never have it turn too fast. The faster it turns the better vacuum you get, hence the better cut. A Cub's PTO is designed to run directly off the crank. That is why it turns faster than a normal 540 pto and in the opposite direction. I know with my Cub, if I keep my yard cut regularly then I can mow in 2nd, if not then it's first. I would consider yourself doing well if you can mow in 2nd all the time. Of course a flat yard helps. I hope this has answered your question. Bill {Antique Acres}

Yes, I have seen many. They are a quite common tractor. The yellow International Cub is basically just the red Farmall Cub wrapped up in a new package. The Cubs changed very little over the yaers from the introduction in 1947 through the end of production. Some of the few changes were, hydraulics introduced in 1948, different grill styles, the Low-Boy, and other small changes. The Cub was the most produced tractor in history. Over 500,000 built. Hope this helps. Bill {Antique Acres}

well, when I mow with my 1250 cub cadet I open er' up and slow the hydro. Better cut. for a while I slowed throttle and went a little faster. worse cut, but quicker and uses less gas ! doing that I could not even use a gallon of gas, and that's with driving 3/4 mile each way and mow 2 3/4 acre lawns ! also mowed had a 122 cadet and I usually mowed 2nd, 1st too slow unless going through heavy stuff.
