My clutch springs on the Super H tested to be 150-160 at 1 and 7/16 inch. According to the shop manual, they are supposed to be 165-175 at 1 7/16 inch. Will they be all right or should I buy new ones? Or could I put a washer in the spring cup and then use them like that? If I do buy new ones, what is the approximate price for one spring? thanks

Since you have it out, hunt for a clutch/brake shop in your area. That's what I did on my MD. I had them rebuild the clutch, which included new springs, etc, but I think they would sell just the springs if that is what you want. New springs should not be too much, as I recall the whole rebuild job was about $120. A fraction of what Case/IH wanted for new parts.

I can believe that! I called my IH dealer and new springs are 10+ dollars EACH! That's almost 100 dolllars for 9 new springs!

If you were going that route, better to buy the whole pressure plate assembly. As I recall, that was $180 for the M.

Bergen - Your springs are only a little outta spec on the low side. Unless you're going to use your SH for extended maximum power operation (or for antique tractor pulling), I'd be inclined to re-use the old springs and put 'em back back in "as is".

Just my opinion however... Bob M
