I am trying to set the carberater float hight on my Cub. The Red states it should be 11/8 of a inch from the bottom of float to upper carb body. On mine if you push the float all the way up, toutching the upper carb. body it measures 1 3/8 inches. Is it suppose to toutch the top of carb. body?
Bill

Have you got that Cub running yet? The float should not touch the top of the carb body. Best way to measure the float height is with carb removed from tractor. With bowl removed from carb and carb in hand, invert the carb so only the weight of the float is on the needle. Make the measurement and adj as required very carefully. Flip the carb over, the float and needle should drop freely.

Connect a length of plastic tube to the carb fuel inlet. You should be able to blow thru the tube with the carb upright. You should not be able to blow thru the tube with the carb inverted.

With the carb in hand, turn the idle adj screw in so you know you have a small amount of throttle plate opening at the idle stop position. This is to insure you are not shutting your tractor down for lack of throttle opening at idle. Set your carb mixture screw or screws at 1 to 1.5 turns out each. You've adjusted a clean carb, verified fuel delivery, I assume you've got ignition, that cub should run!

Bill,
My I&T manual says 1-13/32" from bottom of float to top of float bowl plus gasket. 1-3/8 is only 1/32" off, so you probably have it just a tad high, but probably in the functional range.

Hi Bill ,
This is tricky to explain on the interenet . What you need to do when you set the float leval is .
Let the float rest on the needle valve , this is the way the fuel shuts off . When the needle valve is closed no fuel . As fuel is used the float will drop and open the needle .
Kind of like a toilet tank .
So you see that the float is set by letting it rest on the needle . Your putting a new needle and seat in ? Be carefull bending the tab for height .
Hope it works ...
