I am preparing to paint my '48 cub. Could anyone recommend a good article which they have read re: paint and/or surface prep for antique tractors? The tractor has no surface rust, but a previous owner tried to paint with a brush.

Bill: Besides doing a search here on painting, lots of good posts with great ideas - would recommend getting ahold of the Antique Tractor Bible. I picked one up last night was looking at the paint prep part and was very interested in the pros and cons of the various methods, such as sandblasting. Also the use of an angle grinder and wire wheel versus the old wire brush attachment to your electric drill. Jim

We went to dollar gen. store and bought the cheapest oven cleaner they had. About $1 a can. spray it on and let it set, then pressure wash it off. It will take the paint and greese off down to the bare iron. Make sure you have the tractor in a place that the old paint won't make a mess.
