I recently found the original paperwork to my 1940 Farmall A. I have the original receipts from its purchase and a #15 McCormick hay press. The hay press cost $375 and the belt pulley and PTO on the tractor cost an additional $35 and $25 respectively. But it appears to me then that the tractor itself only cost $181.80! It was "last years model" and sold before the war, but that seems like a HUGE markdown. This seems impossible to me.....how about ya'll. Anyone else know what original owners actually paid for there tractor (I know about the list prices section here at YT, but what to see if it is accurate) Any ideas wanted. Have a good one.

I saw a great little Book while shopping at Tractor Supply Co. the other day. It was called The IH data book. It gave all kinds of facts about IH tractors. Original Specs (Horsepower, Bore size, ect...) it gave the original prices. Most of them started at $600 then went up.

This is my first time on here.I enjoy it very much. My dad bought a model A in 1947 for 950.00. It included a mounted plow and a cultivater. The price stated above sounds a little small.Hope this helps.

Hmmm.. Wonder if someone was doing a little cooking of the books to save taxes somewhere.

Was there a trade in that was not mentioned on the receipt? I know trade ins are usually on that kind of paper.

No trade ins that I know of or can find. I doubt it also because this was the first tractor for the farm and doubt anything else would have been traded in. I was wondering if this was only a partial payment on it as if the rest were paid in cash and this $181.80 the remainder to be paid off later?

Back then, my Dad took a few horses in on trade for new tractors.
