Red, when you painted that H did you use spray cans or a paint gun. What paint guns are best for restorations? Would a $50 touch up gun be good enough for primer and final paint? For removing the paint, Has anyone had experience with the washer wand that mixes sand with the water to "sandblast"? Would this setup get into gaskets and seals like a regular sandblaster? I've heard not. I'm not currently into cosmetics, but hope to be someday. Responses welcome. Just trying to learn.

I don't know if I would sandblast a tractor still together. Sand and silica have a way of getting into every thing. Buy some good oven cleaner, spray it on and cover with plastic overnight in a warm building. Scrape or hose it off. Also, you could buy a good thinner that is used for base coat/clear coat finishes and brush it on and wire brush it off. It is slow but all the grease comes off too. Invest in a bottle of rust killer(Rust-Mort) to "convert" any surface rust in the pits and scratches. The rust is in there you just can't see it unless you grind it out. Do this if you are going to rattle can paint. The rust pits always seem to come back up through the paint, especially if the tractor is left outside all the time. Watch out for lead based paint when grinding. Have fun!:)

Bergen that paint job ain't anything to brag about. A lot of Farmallers can paint better in their sleep than I can.

I used spray cans of VanSickle paint which is a midwestern paint producer. Cost around $2.80 per can. I used around 30 cans on the project.

2.80 a can for Farmall Red! I have been paying $4 a can for that Farm&Fleet junk! I tryed it out on a Old IH spike. Used maybe 5 or 6 cans. It set outside for a year and is peeling, fading and flaking like crazy. Supposed to be rust, weather resistant. Where can you buy this Vansickle paint? I am in Ohio if that helps.

VanSickle paint shows up in various farm stores around Indiana. I get mine at Thrifty Farm Store in Brownsburg just west of Indy. You must pet the old kitty cat when you enter the store!

Red, the tractor looks pretty good from the shots you've got of her.
Jon, looks like you did a thorough job on your 400!

Below is a link to my 400. I used a wire brush on an angle grinder to take all paint off and rust. Then primered with IH ironguard primer, then shot on 2 coats of IH 2150 red with hardener.

I used an $80 craftsman paint gun and was very happy with the results.
