Could be damaged. Also have had a clutch chatter as it is engaged if it has sat for long periods without use. Sometimes this will cause a little of the clutch material to stick to the flywheel surface. If this is the case it can be cleared by burning/slipping the clutch some with the brake on in a higher gear.
Some recommend that if tractor is not used for prolonged periods that it be parked with a block under the clutch pedal to hold it disengaged.

The clutch plate probably had a crack in it. With time and centrifugal force, it gave out. The previous owner of my combine had the same thing happen in the field. The clutch plate blew apart.
