There was a thread on here from last week concerning the oil pressure on gas start diesels to the effect that they only had 45 lbs. oil pressure. My 6 series service manual says they should have 60-70 lbs. pressure at governed speed, and my MD runs right at 65 on the 70 lb. gauge. It seems that all the new replacement gauges that you can get that are the "zone" type are rated at 45 lbs. though. Anybody know the part # or source for a zone style gauge for a 70 lb. system? And why the oil pressure disparity?

Hi Brian, Oil pressure has to do with alot of items. Example, The spec in the manual is for pressure with the recomended oil weight 30w, at 70f abiment temp with engine running at 180f coolant temp at 1500rpm = 70psi oil pressure. Change any one of the above and the oil pressure will be different and I'm not quoting any pictular spec either. A every day tractor mounted gauge will not be as accurate as a Stewart Warner oil pressure gauge that is used for nothing but testing. Oil pressure is also different for every engine. To say that 45psi is correct for every engine would not be correct but would be a close enough reading to not to worry about it.

I did buy a 75 psi IH "logo" oil pressure gauge at Buckeye Tractor recently.
