Anybody know what the original list price was for an Electrall? And how many were made? I had heard somewhere around 100, but not sure. Thanks

Glenn,
There are two articles on them in the current issue of Red Power magazine. Price was $160.

Their printing company had a press that broke down. Combine that with the holidays, and delays built up. The Meissners ahd the magazine done early this time, its just their suppliers that haven't held up. Waiting for mine too.

Wardner, just got my Red Power yesterday. What does anyone think about the thinner paper of the new cover? Actually the magazine has undergone some serious improvement with the change in ownership. Am hoping the thin paper cover is the only decrease in quality. Dick Davis

There were considerably more than 100 Electrall's built. However, when the Electrall didn't sell in one form, IH reengineered it into another form, then another form, yada yada yada. Took them years to get rid of them all. Forms included (These are the ones I know abuot, anyway:)
Tractor mounted, belt pulley drive
Fast Hitch mounted PTO drive
Tow behind PTO drive
Truck mounted PTO drive

Think I'm missing at least one here- anyone else?

One correction Guy. The 400 adaptation was not driven from the belt pulley. There is a special gear box above the IPTO driving gear that is constanly meshed. The gear box has two gearshafts that multiply the speed. The top shaft penetrates the housing and has a pulley that accepts the main drive belt for the generator. There is another smaller belt that drives the exiter generator.

I believe there were around 104 Electrall generator units built. They were made by General Electric for IH, if I'm not mistaken. I'd like to have one of my own!

I am kinda guessing that IH made enough Electrall 400's to send one to each major ag show during the late summer and fall of 1954. If it wasn't sold at the fair, the local dealer had to take it back to his dealership. I would guess that the dealer probably either took off the Electrall and sold it separately or was forced by the market to give it away with the tractor. I doubt if few or any of the tractors were ordered by a customer. It would be interesting to get a list of Serial numbers for the few tractors that still exist. I own Farmall/Electrall 400 #520. It still has the original v-belts for the generator drive. I would think those would be the first items a farmer would remove because the Electrall drive is clutchless. It probably didn't take too much longer for the farmer to remove the whole unit and sell it to someone looking for a generator. IH must have had a large contract with General Electric because the 560 parts book still carried the Electrall Attachment. IH also made an Electrall rig for the 200. They also put them on PTO driven trailers and sent some over to the truck division.
