Whats an M worth?

I am trying to figure out how much my M is worth. It's been listed here and other sites for sale and I haven't had a single responce. It's a 43, new tires, radiator, recient overhaul. M&W live hydraulics and Heisler 9 speed. Tin is straight. It's located in Iowa. I was thinking around $1800. Anyone else have a number for me to try?

I bought a 1951 M in this area about a month ago( Northwestern Ohio ) and paid $2500 for it so don't seem like you are asking too much. Mine has beautiful paint and runs great. Does have sone ageing on the rear tires. So good luck, just hang in there.

Too bad your in Iowa. I'm in Michigan and the M is my favorite tractor. 1800 dollars is quite reasonable here for a machine with that equipment in good shape. I spent 1650 for a 45 M with an IH widefront that looked rough but ran like a top. I would love another M, but my truck is a 97 Dodge Ram with the 318. I don't think it is up to hauling an M that far. Especially since 200 bales of hay make the engine knock like crazy even on premium and OD turned off. Chrysler replaced the first engine but this one is just as bad. Too bad International doesn't still make light duty trucks!

I would love another M, but my truck is a 97 Dodge Ram with the 318. I don't think it is up to hauling an M that far. Especially since 200 bales of hay make the engine knock like crazy even on premium and OD turned off. Chrysler replaced the first engine but this one is just as bad. Too bad International doesn't still make light duty trucks.

I have hauled a couple wide front H's from extreme western IL to north central Ohio with my Dodge Ram 318, and wouldn't hesitate to haul an M. Maybe you need to have a discussion with your Dodge dealer. Topics could be the shortcomings of your truck, or even your driving habits. My 1999 has about 10,000 mil;es on it with the trailer attached with no problems at all. This has been much happier than my experience with the !@@#$% Ford it replaced.

I don't think it is my driving habits, I've been accused of babying it. I don't hammer it, I try to make sure that when I start it I use it until it is good and warm. And I learned from the guys in the Dodge truck newsgroup before I even bought the truck that I should never ever tow in overdrive. I would love to have the same truck with the Cummins diesel.

I didn't think it was your driving habits...I just wanted to make sure. I think your dealer owes you the courtesy of timing your truck, or whatever else he has to do to make it deliver the performance that was built into it. Mine pulls a load just fine, even in overdrive as long as it doesn't need to shift often. That can be a better truck than you seem to have. Maybe there was a problem they fixed before they made mine. Mine is a 1999.

They called the other day to see how it was doing (I had it in for the knock problem earlier this week), part of their five star requirements I guess. They said they will keep trying and asked that I wait a few weeks until the oil is cleared out of the system. The fix was to replace the intake manifold gasket. My wife grew up with the mechanic and he has a reputation for knowing his stuff. He told me Chrysler has a tech bulletin out regarding intake gaskets failing and causing knock issues. I hope he's got it this time.

Aaron...the price seems very reasonable to someone who likes Farmalls in general and Ms in particular. The problem with advertising on a site like this is that you are advertising to people who are often hundreds (or thousands) of miles away.

The Ms are great machines and yours sounds pretty nice...but time and space conspire against most people when tractor shopping. I usually can't see tractors within 100 miles of me because I can't shoehorn 4 hours into my schedule most of the time.

Ms are big and a lot harder to haul than a Cub. Most people won't buy a tractor sight unseen and then pay to have it hauled to them. Most people find it more feasible to just wait on a tractor near them and buy it even if they have to spend more to fix it...it probably costs less than hauling any distance and the KNOW what they have in the end.

Try advertising in you local area or putting it up for auction with at least an $1800 reserve. You'll get bites...and winter is not a real good time to sell. When there is work top be done and people are a few months closer to a payback they will buy.

Around our area it makes a difference if it has a wide front or narrow front end. Seems like the wide front end brings an extra $400 - $500 at auctions.

Have you tried putting it on the Market Place "Auction"? I wouldn't bother unless you can include a good photo. A detailed picture of the tractors' srong points seems to be help with the bidding. You can put a reserve on it, but I sure wouldn't start it at reserve as some sellers do. It is after all an auction. Dick Davis
