I have a 1944 H that smokes more than I consider acceptable. I checked my plugs and they are pretty oily. I took a compression test and all 4 cylinders read between 100-105 lbs. Info that I got off the net says it should be 120 lbs. Here are my questions: 1. Is my compression readings acceptable? 2. What would be the cause of oil in the cylinders: valve guides or rings? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks

When you do the compression test do you do a leak down test?? Meaning by this is hold compression on that cylinder and see how fast the needle on the compression gauge goes down.. If it goes down very slowly then rings are not the problem.. All cylinders will leak down eventually its just important to see how fast they leak down.. If you determine that the rings are not the problem then the only other route is to check the valve guides.. This is assuming that there is no cracks anywhere there isnt suppose to be in the engine..I hope this helps you out!!
