I have a question on painting with IH2150. I got a mix off of the Discussion board to mix 1/2 oz
of hardener and 1 oz of reducer with 1 Qrt of paint. How much time do I need to wait between paint coats? I plan on a tack coat with two finish coats.

Thanks

Bob D

At the risk of offending the tree huggers...the recommended amount of reducer is MUCH too little to allow a good, glossy paint job. It is recommended for imagined environmental reasons. 40% to 50% reduction will allow flowout that can't be done otherwise. At that reduction, the gun must be kept MOVING. As soon as a coat has flashed, it is ready to be covered.

This H was painted with 2150...no hardener...reduced with pure acetone, about 40% and no clearcoat. You can tell, since the decals are applied that it is not wet. (There were no runs). What do you think?

thats an excellent job , im a pro painter and id be proud of that job. some hardner makes results like that easier to do on a daily basis.

Here is my 400 after I painted it using IH 2150. I used 2oz hardener, 2oz reducer to 1 qt paint. The sunlight in this pic really wasn't the best, so it doesn't show how glossy the paint actually is, but you get the idea.

The hardener sounds about right but I think the amount of reducer is a missprint With out going over to the shop and checking a can I think that it is two parts paint to one part reducer All of the paint that I use has the porportions listed on the can or on the reducer can and hardener bottle

reducer does two things #1 it reduces the thickness of the paint so it will go the gun easier # it allows you yo taylor the paint for the temp you are spraying in( thats why there are diffrent temps for the quality reducers) hardner is VERY important if you are painting for a living. it makes the paint jobs last at least twice as long ,it crosslinkes the paint molcules as they dry ,hardner forms a chemical reaction with the paint (turns it into a type of plastic) hardner makes paint MUCH MUCH more chemical resistant if you spill gas on the tank or somthing like that. also with hardner you can sand and repaint the next day if you get a run, scratch ..ect. i dont paint anything without it i use hardner in my primer also. with hardner you MUST wear a good paint mask its bad stuff.every tractor i paint looks like the one in the picture on the other post. they have to or customers wont pay. if you are going to over reduce the paint just do the last coat.
