I have a 560 gas that has all of a sudden decided to overheat after one or two minutes of running and "erupt" anti-freeze out of the radiator fill hole. Would this be a stuck thermostat? If so, is it located above the water pump under the top radiator hose? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Brent, Sounds like classic symptoms of blown head gasket.Usually when they bubble or blow that fast it's a head gasket, hope it is something simple but that is where i'd look, keep us posted, Geo.

How do I diagnose a blown head gasket? Sorry if I'm stupid but I'm an agronomist, not a mechanic.
Thanks!

I would start it,and let it idle slow and look for bubbles in the radiator filler cap. It shouldn't have any, also check for water/ antifreze in the engine oil, also sometimes they will miss on the cyl. that is leaking. also you shouldn't put any engine under a load when it is cold, that is a quick way to blow a gaskett. good luck Geo.

Thanks for the info. Here in Iowa I keep it plugged in in the winter and then warm it up for 20 minutes to heat the hydro fluid before I use it. It doesn't seem to smoke "white" like a car I had did when the head gasket blew. I will check the oil and watch for bubbles.

Is it a tough fix? I am pretty handy but have never pulled a head before.

Brent, I would think a decient shade tree mechanic could do it. if you don't have a repair manual get one, don't skimp. I would say its easy but I can fix most anything. Think about having the hd. resurfaced. these new gaskets don't have asbostos in them and don't have a good rep for not leaking use the high torque specks +10 # lube the threads and follow the torque secquance in at least 3 steps. I'm sure you can get all the help you need with these guys that read the board. Good luck
