I have a Farmall 350 tractor and it doesn't start at times. Some days it will turn the starter as soon as you hit the starter button, other times it activates and makes a buzzing noise but won't turn the starter and other times it doesn't do nothing. What do you think?

jump electrical current from one side of your silinoid to the other to rule out the silinoid. Use jumper cables, that is the safest and make sure the tractor is out of gear. Some times the silinoid will give some problems like you are discribing. This just happened on my 350. If you get good fire at your starter then you need to rule out the hot wire that comes from your switch. If both the starter and the switch wire are good then it is the silinoid. If you do not get fire at the starter it is in that batt. or cables.

On my 350 the ground cable was bad and the bolt and spacer that the ground cable attach to on the transmission cover were corroded. I cleaned up the spacer and bolt and made an insulated ground cable and replaced my solenoid which had a loose post and my problems were cured. My starter button went shot about a year ago and I had to put on a new one. It will start any time now and it is still 6 volt.

Does this tractor have the starter switch on the starter activated by a pull rod?? If it does, I had the same problem you describe with a Farmall C. It was the button on the starter that the pull switch contacts. It was worn to the point contact was not good enough to work the starter dependably. A Starter Generator shop replaced that button for me and now it works fine.

Check your ground as well as cables. Maybe a weak battery or even a bad starter. Hope I could help.

First thing I'd check is the battery and starter cables. If they look rough on the outside they are probably even worse on the inside, the wires break, insulation cracks, connections corrode, etc.

If cables are ok you might check the starter button on the starter, sometimes the contacts get buuned or corroded and cause a problem
