After years of use and abuse, I decided to go through my T340. It got everything; New engine, clutch, steering clutches, under carriage, etc. etc. When I got it done, I filled the case with fluid and put in a new filter. It sounded like it was starving for fluid. I changed the filter again, then I put in a new pump and suction tube with seal. I also snaked out the case suction tube. It still sang... I removed the filter and refilled the case. No noise. I removed the spring loaded plug from the screen strainer which seems to have cured the problem. But, I am concerned that the screen may become over-worked and fail. I should mention that I am not comfortable with the froth that is being generated in the fluid. Can anyone tell me if I have missed something?

Hi Al, I would think the spring and plug in the strainer would be a by pass check if the screen becomes plugged. Could have someone installed a smaller strainer than whats called for? Is the tank vented? If not that maybe where your getting some foam but your going to get some no matter what because of the fluid flow. If it's not excessive I wouldn't worry about it.

I haven't worked on your type of system but just general thinking.

Hi T Bone. Thanks for the interest. The spring and plug is a by pass. But it's attached to the screen. Normally, all fluid passes through the filter. If the filter is clogged, the spring/plug will release under the suction and allow fluid to pass through the screan and into the pump. The filter element and the oil are the only things changed from the time it worked OK 'til now when it sings a song of woe.

Hi Al, From what you've said it would appear there's something wrong with the new filter. I ment filter when I said screen. I don't think the filter can be installed backwards? And even it was I don't think it would cause your problem. There's a problem with the new filter from what you described because you removed the by-pass and that solved the problem. I can't think thats it a oil problem because it pumps fine with enough unrestricted suction. You have a weird one and when you find out, be sure and post the results. T_Bone
