I just noticed that the crank pulley on my 961 is loose, what holds the piece that the crank pulley bolts to on to the crankshaft? While brushogging the tractor started to overheat, I checked the tightness of the fan belt and found it loose, then I noticed the crank pulley was loose, but it doesn't appear to be the pulley bolts but the piece that the pulley bolts to. Is that piece a press fit to the crank (ie: am I going to have to dismantle the whole front of the tractor to put it back on tightly) or is it bolted on. I don't want to try and get in to it now with the engine still hot and dinner about to be served but I'm wondering what I will be getting in to tomorrow. I know that I need a manual, but I don't have one yet and I just sold my old reliable tractor last week. Thanks.

Kevin

Hello. Most all the crank pullys i've seen are held on the crank with 1 big bolt in the center that screws in the tip of the crank and pulls it tight on a tapered seat with a keyway to hold it from spinning. My first guess is it sheared the keyway and spun the pully bolt loose. It's also possable that the crank shaft broke in the front.
I'm new to fords and do not know you're engine so i'm just guessing.-ed

The pulley is bolted on. Check out the New Holland Website for a parts breakdown.
