I have just put a Cockshutt 35 back together and considered maybe doing a pull at the local Fair come August.

Its a all stock machine no alterations.

Where would I start in regards to tire pressure and groundspeed

1st gear or 2nd

Not looking to campaign this just make a couple decent passes and not make a fool out of myself

I have a 35 also and first gear goes 1 5/8 mph according to the manual and second goes 2 3/4. This is from an original manual. So considering most speed limits are 3 mph i would pull in 2nd. I havn't pulled much but 2nd seems to work much better. Also if you want to get crazy you could go in 3rd wich is 3 5/8 mph. but i highly doubt you'll have that much power stock.

for stock antiques or close to stock, use first gear. The slower the better

1st is awfully low on this , I'd figure 2nd would get the sled moving a bit better?

Tires are stock 13.5 x 38

Low gear has always been the gear for heavy load moving, most engine RPMs per revolution of rear tire= more engine power/revolution of tire. Reduce tire pressure to get full contact of the lugs without buckling the center of the lugs

so its more straight pull then getting the weight moving and keeping it in motion then?

The small anmount of pulling I have seen I figured you had to get the weight started well and then some groundspeed to keep it from digging in.
