I put a C-301 in my farmall 560 and now i have my C-263 sitting around. my plan is too make some custom aluminum pistons for it as my senior project for shop class(Precision Machining). My question is how far can I bore the 263 after i take the sleeves out, and still have a reliable motor? Is there anything else I need to watch out for? If anyone can help me out that would be great! Thanks, email is open.

Ya, your exactly right. Early 263"s are not very thick. Some of the later ones are alittle thicker. The 263"s out of 403 combines were sleeveless and are thicker. They can be bored to almost 4in and should be fine. Its always a matter of chance though some blocks are just a little thicker than others.

I recently bored out my C-263 block to the stock 301 piston size of 3 13/16 bore. I ran it like that for about 15 engine hours and dyno'ed 86 horsepower. I ended up with a pin hole in #6 cylinder and had the block checked. I had a repair sleeve installed to seal the block. The machinist found that on 2 cylinders, there was only .030 sleeve wall left until it hit the water jackets. I'm still running the stock 301 piston but unlike a stock 301 motor, i have cylinder sleeves instead of the bare block. Best advice, make sure to have sleeves in the block because the engine won't end up lasting long, just as I found out. Best of luck.
