Got an issue... my M has a hairline crack in the bellhousing on the right side of the tractor (as looking forward from the seat). The crack is vertical, nearly straight, 4 inches long and is about 1 1/2 inches back from the where the clock bolts to the bellhousing. The first time I hook with it, am I just going to tear it all to you know what? Nothing I do about this short of buying a junk tractor or salvage yard bell is there?

Drill a hole in the bell housing and then TAKE IT TO A WELDER and get it welded. Preheating and brazing were the best ways to do this when the tractor was brand new, but now there are new cast iron rods out there that are far superior. The rod is rather expensive and I haven't found it by the rod so you wouldn't really want to buy a whole pack just for one crack. (That is why I take it to a welder.) I use RC Welding in Elkhorn, WI.

I forgot, the other reason I say to take it to a welder is bc a good welder is a professional in his field and will know all of the latest techniques. That is what I like about RC Welding. Even if you are from a state away, Bob will answer your questions and I know he will tell you what rod he uses and I bet he could source it for you.
Good Luck!

You drill a hole at the end of the crack to stop it.

Then you braze iron or use nickle rod and peen it afterward.

Brazing iron is a very good way with bronze rod . Any welding shop will suggest these two ways.

Weld it. Pre heat w/ torch and use stainless steel rods.
