I bought a WD 45 with no engine. I bought a E combine engine for it. The engine runs and doesn't smoke. I haven't checked the compression yet. Assuming the compression is fine would it be smart to tear the engine down replace the rings, bearings, and oil pump. I'll have the timing cover, and governor off anyway.

Those motors are pretty reliable but if you are going to up the RPM's on it and pull it I would tear it down and do the things you mentioned and maybe consider a 4 1/8 piston kit. It adds 6 horsepower and if you are going to get rings and bearings and a gasket kit anyway it isn't much more for the whole overhaul kit

Combine engines generally have very low hours, so new rings and bearings shouldn't be needed. If you want to up the RPM's you can do it at the gov. spring without tearing it down. If you want the over bore, do it all, otherwise just run it.
