Farmall M Puller Hitch Question

I have been talking to several folks about farm stock classes, I'd like to pull my M some but really don't want to lose the functionality of it either as it's not strictly for pulling.. I have the horseshoe drawbar with the swinger attached.. it is my understanding you can't pull with a swinger, and I doubt that the horseshoe itself needs that kind of stress.. what can I do for a hitch that isn't expensive nor a major alteration? If anyone has a picture or two they could send me as well, I'd really appreciate it. My email address is posted.

If your going to pull in a true farm stock class, where it must be the way it came from the factory, you will have to pull off your swinging drawbar.

I've seen people pulling off that horse shoe and have seen them break.

How thick of steel is the horseshoe? They had a thin and a thick loop. I took a broken thin part, welded it to the bottom of my thick loop, at 7500# have not bent the loop yet pulling just off the horseshoe part. A press was used to straighten both pieces before welding. Hope this helps. ChadS

It's pretty thick stuff.. 1/2 inch maybe? I'm just worried about where it bolts to the axle... I may just do that though... did you bore a hole through the center of the horsehoe to put a clevis in? My horeshoe doesn't have a center hole where the swinger is.

I made my clevis a 2 bolt, but it had the center hole in it already. What the guy is explaining about the axle mounts,,, they swap the support brackets from mounted on the rear of the axle, to mounted on the front side of the axle. This can move your hook point in closer to the rear axle, possibly allowing the support braces to mount further back to help hold the center section up better.

Put your hores shoe in front of axel and take off your swinging draw bar off and make a short plate and bolt on to your horesshoe and pull off of it.

I did that same thing a few years ago, pulled several pulls with hitch fastened in front of rear axle like you said and then was DQed with it (after we would have won class again) .... is guess we were too successful with it. Just remember, if you can't beat them, DQ them.
