My step-dad has a stock 1940 Allis-Chalmers WC, and in a month or so I will have a 1949 John Deere G with a .125 over bored out, high compression engine with a pulling manifold and enlarged carb. He thinks his tractor would beat mine any day of the year. Is there actually any competition there at all, or is the G just a whole lot bigger tractor?

I run a WD thats pushing 55 h.p. and when I pull 5500# class its even asking a lot out of it. When you go putting on 2000 - 2500 lbs. of weight on it kills the power in a hurry. Not saying it can't be done, cuz I've beaten some pretty tough tractors in the 5500# class. He'll be the under Dog when he's only got 26 h.p. and a lot of traction. But have fun, my dad pulls a John Deere B and at one pull he'll get me and at another I'll get him, but we have a lot of laughs!

I would be afaid to say it maight and might not. Just depends on a few thing ex.track, track condition, driver abilty, and alot of other things.

Hope you win. Rembemer if you win or lose it is only for fun. So have fun but be safe ex. wheelie bars.

that is my 2 cents worth

I hate to admit it, being a - well, a G man, but Ken is absolutely right. Proper tractor set-up (tire pressure, weighting, etc) and good driving and track-reading skills have won more pulls than horsepower ever will. If you pull at that 5500 lb. mark, you're more than likely going to need to be on your brakes pretty much all the time, to keep from spinning out, especially in first gear. I'd tell you to try 2nd, but I don't think you'll
have the the power to do it. A friend told me that it takes a "good" tractor to pull second gear, and a "real good" tractor to pull third, lol. If nothing else, challenge him to pull 5500, 6500 and 7500. You ought to be able to take two of three from him pretty easy then, if not all three. Good luck with the G.

If he weights his allis to 5500 he can move them around and you on a G will be pretty much empty who knows its all a traction game. don't count the old allis out just yet.

Take them to the next local tractor pull- I am sure the promoter will let the two of you have a friendly family gruge match. Just to keep it "sporting", make the bet one of your fovrite golden beverages. Make sure he has it iced down for you!
