There's no hints to give you that I know of. I used a set for two summers, until I could find a good set of tires that I could afford. I tried everything, but like you say once you start slipping in the slightest you wont go much farther. The only tracks I ever did well on were muddy,or soft tracks, and I think it was because they were about half tread, and could dig down. Good luck though. Greg H.

Hi slow smoke, we landed a pair of Firestone 23" short bar/long bar 18.4x26" tires AND rims (pressed steel) at the Wooster farm consignment sale this spring for $275. They did outstanding at the spring WSTPA pull in the 5000# and 6000# classes on the IH504. I understand that these tires are no longer made, (wear out quickly on roads). They outpull the Goodyear long bar tires we used last year, many more lugs per tire.

Tried a pair of 16.9 x 34 long lug short lug with no luck. Stick with 23 degree Firestones.
