Is anyone on this list familiar with the practice
of making an opening between the runners on the intake manifold on tractors equipped with duplex
carbs. Tractors such as model 50,60,70. I understand the idea is to, in effect, increase carburetion to each cylinder by allowing it to pull some through the other side of the carb, however I don't wont to mill too large a slot and over-carburet the engine.

mike, I have seen several of these done, I personally did allot of work on a 60 that had this done to it. The conclusion and opinion that I arrived at is this: If you have a highly modified engine with the cubic inch almost doubled or more there is some definite value in doing this. If you do not I wouldn't do it. The 60 that I worked on was over 600 cube, had the intake runner removed from the manifold and the head clear down to where the intake ports Y'ed off away from each other. You could stick your hand down in the intake head port and touch the valve stems with your fingers! All the work was done at a head shop with a flow bench at there access. If you are near stock cube I wouldn't destroy your head or manifold as I don't think it will be worth your time. That is my two cents worth for what it is worth. Good Luck Dave W.

Milling will gain a couple of peak HP but will reduce bottom end torque.
