Cockshutt 30 for Pulling...

I have recently retired my 1954 Cockshutt 30 gas trractor from the field and am thinking about pulling with it locally.

Where is the best place to put money into the tractor?

Are there any easy horsepower gains to be made? Any stroker kits or other $$ modifications?

Many thanks,
Bruce

If they are stock pulls I would work on traction first, (drawbar, wieght brackets, tires) try it and if power is a problem then go from there.

Andy, Most of the rules in the area don't allow for much modification, but regulation is pretty lax.

There are guys Running JD 630's straight out of the fields to guys with fully restored Cases and Massey's who definatly don't have stock engines.

A lot of the pulls in our area use a dead-weight sled, and not the weight transfer kind.

Do you know any common tips or tricks for creating power or getting it to the ground?

Raise your draw bar or make one that is the highest that rules allow. You may want to keep it 1/2" below the limit so you can inflate/deflate your tires depending on the track.

The only thing I have heard mention of is the the more straight across the tire the tread is the more forward bite the tire has.
