Hey guys:

I made my first pull in the farm stock class with my 4020 diesel Friday night/Saturday morning and came in 5 out of 5. I got 216 feet and the winner had 224 feet. It was a speed pull and I had the tractor revved quite high with the diff lock engaged. At the end there when the front end came up I couildn't go foreward or do anything at all. I was in the 10,000# class and it was pretty exciting. I had 3 sets of wheel weights on and had the front weight starter brackets on and weighed in at exactly 10,000#. I was in 2nd gear also.

Thanks,

John

I was just wondering where you guys with the 4020's were from and where the pulls are at. I pull a JD 4000 Diesel in the 9500 Stock and 10500 No-Turbo class.

Hey guys:

Greg, I have a factory wide front end and had a half a tank of fuel. I had three wheel weights on each side and the starter weights on the front. The fluid has been pumped out of the tires. I think I was going too slow because I never ran out of power, I should've been in 3rd or maybe even 4th, I'll try more this weekend, there is another local pull with a 9500# and a 10000# class.

Jack, I was against two other 4020's, an International (not exactly what size), and an Oliver 1755 that ran pretty good.

Any more info would be greatly appreciated guys.

Thanks,

John

John,
sounds like you've got things pretty well lined up, and I'd agree with the others if you arn't lugging bad go up a gear. The sled you have must put the weight to you at a lower rate, than what I'm used to. I still would consider putting a couple hundred more pounds on the front if there's anyway that you can, because you will be getting a harder bite in 3rd than you were in second, and your front will come up alittle easier. The sled that's used around here puts the weight on quickly, thats why I use the lower gears. I can always get 200 feet in 3rd but I power out, 2nd is an all around good gear, but for me in the 10,000 pound I have enough weight, that if I want to I can make a good pull in first because I can look at the track before I start, look at the holes, and take my time and work my way around the track as I go, and I can trottle down to gain traction, and speed it back up as I want to. I know it looks stupid pulling that slow, but I have a stock farm tractor that I can work with, and that I don't tear up pulling. Keep pulling, and you will get your balance, and figure out what works for you. Have fun, and good luck. Greg H.

John,
do you have any fluid in your tires? if so you might want to try to let it out, and try to get your nose down,by adding some more front weight. The reason is you have to figure that it takes nearly 2,000 pounds of down pressure on you draw bar to raise the front end on that tractor, so you know the sled is adding considerable weight to the back of your tractor. Once the front of the tractor is lifted you loose drawbar, and alot of the downforce on your tires, not to mention steering, and lastly traction. I pull a 4020 gas that is stock, and when i had 34 inch tires on it I'd run 5 sets of back weights, and the double starter with 2 80 pounders on the front in the 10,000, and I could get out around 250 to 260 fairly consistantly,on a sticky track but no farther. Now I have 18.4x38 FS F&R on the back, and I find myself needing to go 300 pounds heavier on the nose to be able to not rare up, and spin out. I don't have quite the lug that you have so sometimes I pull 1st in the 10,000, but always 2nd in the 9,000. I think if you get the nose of that tractor down, so you can stay out of the other guys holes, and let the sled keep adding weight to you, than you ought to craw on out amoung the tractors that beat you. At any rate good luck. Greg H.

What other type of tractors were you pulling against, what size and kind.
