Just asking for my neighbor/friend. besides pulling in 1st gear what can he do to improve the tractor? What about distributor does any one recommend or have part numbers for a better distributor? Carb? What if he wanted to go to bigger valves, what size valves and what else would need to be matched to make the change worthy? What about porting is there any magical spots that a little massaging makes a bigger diference that others? As I know on small engine racing motors they concentrate on certain corners. Basically I beleive he is looking to have the head reworked upgrade the ingnition system, rework the carb, and??? anything else guys? Pretty much knows what should be done just looking for a little technical guidance sizing etc. etc.

Bigger valves for a basically stock motor is a waste of money. Porting, polishing and a fresh valve job will definately help. not too expensive either. Carb and ignition are very important. A good ign. helps burn all the air fuel in the combustion chamber. Remember also that too much carb is just as bad as not enough. Try burrey carb service for the carb and maybe an electronic ign.(pertronix).Neither are too expensive but will help. Remember, have fun. THATS what this sport is all about. Just my two cents...770

It all depends on what his pulling rules allow.
You can put a 1100 Massey head on the 88 block and change the cam. Use 1650 (i think) gas intake
and have a totally differant motor without having to go into the bottom end.
