How much power does fluid take in tires to turn them over? I have a 1948 JD D with fluid all the way around It powers out in the tractor pull. It weighs 7800lbs I did win with it but just by a foot. Can a person weld on the head to take up air space to up the compression or will it take away from the way it fires in side the cylinder?
I would like to keep the fluid in but then I need more power. thanks for any info

Actually the water in the tires might help to some extent. Just think of them as two big flywheels! Once you get the weight moving it works to your advantage.

If your engine is stock it sounds like you done good. If you take the water from the tires you will be lighter, but may loose traction and not do as well. If you want more power build the engine. If you powered out at 7800 pounds that's not uncommon for a tractor of that HP.

You can't really weld up the head, the weld will split away, and it wouldn't be pretty when it hit the top of the piston!!
