I just got a M&W Hydra Guage dyno model P-400A. It does not have any instructions with it. I don't know where to set the pulsation dampener and when to quit turning the load and unload wheel on wheel on the back to get the HP reading on the dial. Thanks for any help.

Pull it down to 540 on the small gauge. Thats about what you have for rated hp. Play with your mag or dist. and carb. for max hp. then pull it down to 480. ajust again for max hp. This should help the tractor down the track.
Good Luck!

You need to pull the engine down so that the RPMs on the small dial matches up with on of the RPM scales on the big dial. It depends on what tractor you are checking as to what you need to pull it down to. If you had a M&W book it would give you that info. Not all tractor's rated horsepower is at PTO speed, that is why M&W has a conversion chart also. The pulsation dampner only is used to stablize the HP reading needle after you pull the engine down. Start with if opened up and when you get it pulled down turn it in to keep the needle from jumping. Let the dyno warm up to get a more acurate reading. WB.

So then is it possible that a G Deere would need a different conversion chart than say a Farmall M on the same dyno?If this is so than I need a conversion chart. Thanks

Where can a person find an M&W dyno? What is a model p-2000? What are they worth?

Hi Jack. The dyno gauge is calibrated for HP at 540 rpm or 1000 rpm. It is also calibrated to read pressure in psi. If you are interested in finding the max Hp, which very well may be at an rpm other than the 540 or 1000 pto speed, you can cross reference the chart to get Hp using the simultaneous readings of psi and rpm from the dyno. Since the Hp chart is a function of pressure and rpm, it is independent of the input power source; i.e. it is the same chart for a JD G or Farmall M. ---TF
