This is my 1st post to this forum,so be kind to me.I'm posting this for a friend who is getting a JD 720 diesel std. rice special(23.1x26's) ready for his 1st pull at the end of June down in Texas. He is getting 23.1 x 26's radials with a r1 lug and wants to cut the tires to reduce the height of the lug.
Is there anyone in Texas or near by that does this or do you just take a grinder to them? open for any Ideas.
To give an idea of what he's doing to it, it has 830 .125 pistons with 830 injectors and the rack opened up to "19"( what ever that means) and the "creeper gear" installed and 20K of 26" and suitcase weights added to it.
There are NO restrictions down here in Texas as far as wgt. and tire size. Thanks Y'all.....

If only 45 thou overbore was required to straighten the cylinder wall then only bore that much. The more metal removed the more heat(power) soaks into the water jacket. A 125 overbore only adds 4% more displacement. Far more power in a straight exhaust stack & a dry airfilter conversion. Real & meaningful power gains from sleeving & overboring 1/2" or more. Or stroking. The extra displacement requires more airflow or pretty much stock HP will be made, just at a lower rpm. Crank the rpms to 1500 if the valve springs are new. A stock 720 should pull on any track in 2nd gear at 8000lbs & most tracks to 10,000 or more lbs. Most clubs won't let radials pull in any antique, stock classes or farm classes. Check again before cutting up those tires. Is the 720 equiped with the early heads/injectors or the late 720/730 heads/injectors? The fuel rack should go to 20 or slightly more when maxed. Let us know the the combo works out, sounds interesting.

I have used a plainer in the past It seems to be quicker than a grinder

From TX here.. I guess U are talking about the pull in Stonewall.. At last I remember there are no restrictions at the pull down there.. but we are having pulls all over the State where we are pulling under a set of rules, they are like the NATPA rules, we have tire size and wieght limits, I think we have had about 6-7 pull this year and have about 15-20 scheduled. I will look and see if I have them listed on a page and send them to you.
As far was cutting your tires, I do not know of anyone in TX, there might be some one in the panhandle that is doing this, but I don't know of anyone. Most of us are cutting our own, or sending them to someone to have them cut.. but if you look hard enough, I bet there is someone. We would like for U to start pulling with us, so I'll send U some info.. Later..

(Aren't the 720 and 830 pistons the same size?? 6.125 stock+the over size??? just wondering.. you can also look for a late 730D head, if I remember correct it is a little better.. ) We are going to try and make it to the Stonewall pull... if nuthing else see U there... Good Luck

We ct ours with a planer, and then clean them up with a grinder, works pretty well.
