I pull my Case DC and 500B against a J/D B as you have desribed. He has beat me a couple of times and won the class. With a hard track a B with slow gears will ease over the bad spots without spinning out. Weight it so the front tires are a little off the ground at the end of the pull. Stay in the classes with the lowest drawbar rule.

ryan be sure to watch other puller before you pull and read the track that is my biggest problem make sure your tire presure is very low like 8 to 10 psi but do not go to low and beat those red things on the track they claim are tractors good luck and let me know how you do

Ryan, start with a good tune-up - replace points, plugs, wires, etc. Check compression. Check the operation of the carb and adjust it and the timing for maximum power on a dyno if you have access to one. All of this will help you get the most out of your tractor and will provide a baseline to measure the effectiveness of any future modifications. Don't worry if you're not getting 50 hp out of your B - more pulls are won by proper tractor set-up and track reading/driving than are won by horsepower. All the power in the world won't do you any good if you can't get it to the ground. There's nothing funnier than watching a hopped up tractor get spanked by a stocker because the owner didn't know how to weight the tractor and read the track.
