“Engine: IHC, 3-7/8 x 5-1/4, 1,450 rpm, 4-cylinders, vertical, valve-in-head, cast en bloc; piston displacement 247.7 cubic inch; removable sleeves”

That’s really all I’ve found to date, any good sources for more detailed info? I’m curious about:

Compression ratios
Valve sizes
Deck height (centerline of crank to deck)
Rod length
Cam profiles

More out of curiosity than anything…fer now…lol…Yank

May not be the gospel, but my old IT shop manual says: M comp: 5.7 SM comp: 5.9
I assume this was standard gas, kerosene was lower and altitude was higher.

Valves sizes were all the same for the series. I've heard some say the 400-450 and LP's had bigger valves, but the local engine builder's books just lists one valve size. But that's not to say that there wasn't some low production special castings. I'm curious too.

Deck height is approx. 12 5/8". I've never checked this but: rod length is 10" plus 1/2 stroke is 12 5/8".

I can't say much about cams other than as the series progressed the cams got better as to making more hp. I'm not sure if LP's cams were different. Curious here too.

Good Luck.

add 3.125" to that for piston and you get the 15.75" for the actual deck height
