A Lot of people say that pulling is really hard on a tractor engine. I don't really see where it is that bad on them until they die and almost stall out. I was hoping that someone here could help explain this to me because I am new to this and would like to be able to understad what these people are trying to say to me. Just so everyone can have somethiung to base a discussion on I pull stock straight out of the field and run my tractor 10 to 15 hp above stock rating all the time.

Thanks

Dan S.

According to my Father pulling a transfer sled absolutely ruins a tractor and stretches the tires. After saying that he went back to the bush and began pulling out tree tops left by the loggers. He doesn't mind driving through deep mud/water,holes,stumps,stones, getting the paint scratched, driving on side hills, driving up/down steep inclines or backing up taking a run at a stuck tree top to give it a good yank. No problems with lugging the guts out of the tractor pulling a couple of tops out at a time instead of just one.

I have pulled a 44 MH since 1974 and havn't had a break down. Years ago a friend was roading his farm ttactor to the local pull when the bull gears shelled out half way to town--thank goodness it happen on the way not during the pull.

It has been my experience that most of the individuals who stress the damage done to the tractor during a transfer pull are the folks who either don't like pulling or are really uneducated on the whole process. No more damage is done to the engine during a pull than there is hitting hard soil with a plow.

never had any damage done to the massey ferguson 165 that we've been pulling for 30 years, so my opinion is that it is no harder than farm work.

Fergusonfan, good run at the fair! Is the Ferguson None65 (oops, 165) going to WSTPA on the 28th?? One pull a year is semi-retirement, right? Get Pops to trade the 1/2 ton in for a real truck and you can buy a trailer, not gonna break anything on 1 pull/year!! Am not satisfied with our 1st and 4th, will try harder on the 28th!

165 would make the trip..... .but..... ..lacks adequate transportation..... ...suppose it would be better to go there than to go to medina, pay $55 and have a chance to win $50. truck issue is ongoing. whats it cost at west salem? might make the trip worth our while.

Burns is wright that pulling is not as hard on tractors as some of the work in the fields. What is hard on them is when you over load them with weight and pull way out of the class for your tractor like I do with my Johndeere 60. At times we pull her up in the 12,500 class. 9,500, 10,500, and 11,000 are my three top classes that I am compeditive in. Have bent two cranks at Pittsfield Pa. Warren Co fair farm stock. That is one tough track. You get hardley any spin out there. It will take most tractors to a stall. Most big boys tell you to drop one gear when pulling there from what you would use elsewhere.

You pull a 60 in a 12,500 class? You must make fool of yourself. Why would you do that? All you are doing is slowing down the pull and wasting the time of real pullers. Why do any of you pull those old small tractors it seem's like a waste of time. Everybody and there brother has a ninteen 50's tractor they can pull. I was a at a pull the other day with twenty tractor in it and they all full pulled and they pulled them all again in a pulloff. Why don't you guy's put the money into it and pull with the big boys?

You are a jerk, the kind of jerk that ruins pulling for everyone else. Don't post unless you have something decent to add to the topic.
