I have a restored IH "M" an am getting the "Pulling bug". I would like to pull in the farm stock 5500/6000 (tractor weighs 5700).
how about some tips from you pros?
I am running 14.5/38 rear tires wit not liquid, what tire pressure should I start with? what gear? 1st Gear?
ease the throttle on as speed momentem increases? Try to eliminate tire spin right? Any advice for this first time puller X drag racer woud be appreciated..... .....thanks

Its good to see more "RED" hooking to the sleds. Personally, if you are going to just hit fun pulls with relaxed rules put those 14.9's on a 16" to 17" wide rim this will allow for much more contact to the track. I pull with a set of 23.1 x 30 on 24" wide rims and pull in 3rd gear and powered out once when I tride to pull 5th (I still won the class ). If you are still stock put it in 1st, pull back, and hang on. If you are looking for a few ideas on dropping weight or horses reply to me.

I have a 1949 M and usually I pull 7 lbs. without a problem, but on those soft tracks, you can run 6 as long as the sideways don't buckle in toward the center and fold in. I have pulled 6lbs. before in heavy weight and killed the engine

I have a 1949 Farmall M that I pull in the 4500-5500 pound class and I run 7-8 lbs. The person that owned this tractor before us put 4 inch pistons in it and we cranked out 50 horsepower. Come to find out we had to bore it to 4 1/8 inch to pull any good in the 5500-6500. Runing at 7 lbs. will give you enough traction with 14-9-38.

Not a pro by any means but have some experience with M pulling. Tire pressure 8-12lbs is where we run. Depends on track, tractor weight, and tires. In general, the harder the track, the higher the pressure. We have only pulled in low gear w/ 14.9 tires and usually run out of traction in 6000# class and out of power at 7000#. Start w/ 1/3 to 1/2 throttle and after clutch and tires have hooked up, open it up. Took 2nd behind a SMTA using the TA a couple weeks ago. Have fun!

I pull a Massey Ferguson 165. But for a Farmall, first gear is good. try not to pop the clutch off the line. I usually start out at about half throttle and have it wide open by the 100 foot mark. building a proper hitch is very important.people who pull off of a clevis bolted to a stock drawbar hardly ever have success. let me know how you make out.

fergusonfan, if you think the none65 ferguson is bad now, go ahead and get the multi-power fixed!!We do need to re-measure your hitch, though!!

I have a Super M. I was running 13.8-38 tires with liquid in the 7000# class. I found that I ran out of traction just ahead of power when pulling in second gear. I have since changed to 15.5-38 without liquid and I have not had a chance to try this combination yet. I am on a stock drawbar. I found I pulled just a little further in second than first.
