I got my hands on a AC U that is in rough shape. Original restoration probably is out of the question, so I'll PULL it! It has the AC engine but is a 1930?? U2514. What can be done with her for competitive pulling, but not hurt the pocket book too bad? All opinions are welcome! LOL Thanks ZIP

The engine is not the flat top continential engine like my nieghbors. It is the 4 cylinder ohv Allis Chalmers Engine and the Serial# on the tractor is U2514. Thanks for the tips!

The early models used a continental engine before changing to the Allis motor. If the tractor has the Allis engine, you have a pretty stout machine to start with. I had one I played around with in the field, it would out work my 37 D JD. Some things that could be done without spending a fortune, is headwork. THe carb is the same as an F-30, and the manifold can be a problem - the intake tube rots out sometimes and has to be replaced. I beleive the engine is 4 3/8" x 5".

If it is a Allis engine it will be overhead valves, if it is a flat head its a continental. The Allis had two different bores, 4-3/8 or 4-1/2. Also it could be a gas or kerosine engine. They have very fast gears for pulling div I, II, III. Ours goes over 3.8mph in low gear with everything stock eccept the 16.9x28 tires. They were rated at 35 with the cont. engine and about 38-43hp with the Allis depending on which you had.
I have heard of people boring them to 4-5/8 but have never tried myself. I know some people have used IH truck pistons in them for more compression and also shaved the head 3/16" to 1/4" but have it checked before you do it. Good luck with the "U".
